Chubby Group Signs $100 Million Agreement to Acquire 47 GEN Korean BBQ Restaurants

GEN Restaurant Group has signed a binding letter of intent to sell 47 GEN Korean BBQ restaurants to Chubby Cattle Group in a transaction valued at $100 million. The proposed acquisition, expected to be completed in four phases over 12 months, represents a significant expansion opportunity for Chubby Group’s national restaurant operations. With approximately 70 existing locations across 25 brands, including Chubby Cattle, Wagyu House, NIKU X, and The X Pot, the group is positioning itself for a substantial increase in its restaurant footprint.

For Chubby Group, this agreement represents a major step in its evolution from a collection of premium dining concepts into a larger, multi-brand hospitality platform. Rather than relying exclusively on developing restaurants from the ground up, the proposed acquisition creates an opportunity to expand through an established network of operating locations. Chubby Group is expected to fund the necessary restaurant conversions and buildouts, creating opportunities to strengthen its presence across existing markets while bringing its approach to premium ingredients, interactive dining, and hospitality innovation to a broader customer base.

The larger business takeaway is that sustainable restaurant growth requires more than opening new locations. It demands the ability to integrate operations, maintain consistency, manage capital, and preserve the guest experience across an expanding portfolio. For Chubby Group, this proposed acquisition represents an opportunity to accelerate national growth while strengthening the operational foundation needed to support it. The next phase will be defined not simply by the number of restaurants added, but by how effectively those locations are integrated into a scalable, long-term hospitality business.
