Chubby Group Signs $100 Million Deal to Acquire 47 GEN Korean BBQ Restaurants

Chubby Group is preparing for one of its largest expansion milestones yet, signing an agreement to acquire 47 GEN Korean BBQ restaurants and four development sites in a transaction valued at up to $100 million. The proposed acquisition would significantly expand the company’s national restaurant footprint, building on its existing portfolio of more than 70 locations across brands including Chubby Cattle, Wagyu House, NIKU X, and The X Pot. The announcement follows Chubby Group’s $50 million Series A funding round led by Prysm Capital, positioning the company for its next phase of growth in the U.S. hospitality industry.

For Chubby Group, this acquisition represents more than an increase in restaurant locations. It creates an opportunity to integrate an established Korean BBQ network into the company’s vertically integrated operating platform, which combines direct ingredient sourcing, restaurant development, and its Chubby Club membership ecosystem. The company plans to transition the locations in phases, introducing wagyu-forward dining experiences under GEN X or other Chubby Group concepts. By combining GEN’s existing restaurant footprint with Chubby Group’s supply chain capabilities and hospitality standards, the company aims to strengthen operational efficiency while delivering greater value and quality to guests.

The larger business takeaway is that meaningful expansion requires more than capital and new locations. Sustainable growth depends on building an operating infrastructure capable of supporting quality, consistency, and customer loyalty at scale. For Chubby Group, the proposed GEN acquisition represents an opportunity to accelerate national expansion while applying a proven operating model across an established restaurant network. The long-term objective is not simply to operate more restaurants, but to create a stronger hospitality platform where every location contributes to greater efficiency, better guest experiences, and lasting brand value.
